I want you to feel good in your body
I believe:
- Your body is worthy of love and respect, exactly as it is. You are not a “before.” You do not need to be “fixed.”
- In taking care of the body you have now
-
You are the expert on your body
-
Weight is not a measure of health
-
That the pursuit of weight loss is not the goal of our lives
-
In pleasurable physical movement
-
That restricting food or engaging in punishing exercise is not taking care of our bodies
-
There is healing in pleasure
-
That eating disorders happen in all body shapes, sizes, genders, cultural backgrounds, and abilities. And that everyone who struggles deserves culturally sensitive support
-
Your lived experience
I am a certified Body Trust® provider, who is committed to working in partnership with you, not prescribing lifestyle changes to you.
In all honesty, I came to this work to learn how to “fix” my body: I thought it was too big, the wrong shape, and not toned enough. I thought there was a magic mix of exercise and food that I would learn, follow, and then I would have the perfect body. Very quickly I realized what nonsense that was. And further, I saw how damaging that messaging is. Of the hundreds of people who have worked with me, either individually or in group fitness, no one has been satisfied with their body. I’ve seen other professionals cause so much harm when they promise weight loss, promise a specific body shape outcome, promise that if we all just tried hard enough, we’d all look the same. I want to change all that. I value diverse bodies, all foods, any movement that feels good. I honor your lived experience and believe your struggles with food and belonging. I know you’ve tried many things before and I want to work with you to try different, not harder. I believe that healing happens in relationships.
I began teaching step aerobics classes in 2000. I quickly expanded my repertoire to include cardio kickboxing, strength training and flexibility training classes. Today I teach all of these in addition to indoor cycling (also known as Spinning), boot camps (both post natal and general population) and interval training. I am also a personal trainer and an instructor trainer, which means that I teach others to be fitness coaches and personal trainers. I hold certifications from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, YogaFit, TRX, Spinning, Baby Boot Camp, Mom in Balance, Brooklyn Embodied, and the YMCA.
I completed my Master of Science in Human Nutrition in 2009. While I am interested in a wide range of nutritional topics, I feel especially passionate about ending Diet Culture. I encourage all of my clients to think of food as a source of pleasure, as fuel for our bodies and something to be appreciated and enjoyed. I love giving easy and delicious sample meals, sharing tips on how to eat well on a limited budget and identifying emotional eating.
I also offer a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach to work with hormone balance, including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and gestational diabetes, and managing cholesterol and blood pressure. If you have been diagnosed with “pre-diabetes,” I can also help you navigate that with your health care provider.
I have two daughters and, wow, has parenting opened my eyes to a whole new world! From the experience of being pregnant to giving birth to working on closing my diastasis recti, plus simply trying to take care of myself as a new parent. This has given me new perspective on health and I LOVE working with people on prenatal and postpartum fitness and nutrition.
I am a member of IDEA–the world’s largest association for fitness and wellness professionals.
